Previously a Soviet republic, landlocked Armenia has some of the world's oldest monasteries and churches. Religious sites here include Etchmiadzin Cathedral and the Greco-Roman Temple of Garni. Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity, and in WWI experienced a genocide at the hands of the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. Today, most visitors to Armenia center their trip around its capital city, Yerevan. | ||||
